Adventures of a Refugee Case Worker

So I feel like I have to write these down so I don't forget:

The other day I went to take an Iraqi family to their TB appointment (appointment for immunizations). I had to be there by 8am in order to make their 8:30 appointment. Sweet family of 6, with adorable children. So I arrive and everyone is still asleep except the father, whom, for the sake of privacy, no names will be given. Anyhow, he opens the door and runs by and for a second I'm confused. Did he just open the door with no pants on?

Just to be safe, I wait outside the door. Surely he just ran past to go get ready. "Come in, come in, Katie! Why you wait outside?!" I walk in timidly while he lounges on his couch in his tightie whities, and nothing more. I hurriedly tell him to go upstairs and get dresses and to wake up the rest of his family and after a few seconds of him sitting there and me looking at their ceiling, he FINALLY goes upstairs.

I right it off as an accident until he DOES IT AGAIN to the next female case worker who visited him. So now I have to get Raed, my Iraqi co-worker to call him and basically shame him into always wearing pants when I come to his door....

Oh the life of a case worker.

There are SO many more stories. Hotel sheets as dress skirts for Rohingya clients, goat chopping (literally) in a Nepali apartment, airport bag chasing and running through airport securities with Afghan clients, meeting more afghans at the DFW airport, sweet syrians and their $600 speeding tickets... and more and more and more. I'll continue to write as stories come.

adventures of a 29 year old

In two hours I will be 29. A number I feared for a long time because it means one last year in my twenties. But as I reflect back on what the Lord has taught me the past year, and really the past two weeks of my life has made turning 29 more of a joy.

He's ordained our days. Teach us to number our breaths, O Lord. He has allowed me to reach 29. He could have just have easily taken my breath away in an instance. But I must say these last years have been an adventure with God and I look forward to adventuring with Him more. And even if this is my last year of life, I strongly believe it would be enough. He's been so gracious to me. He's showed me wonders, miracles even, and He has spoken to me. He hears me. He sees me. And if He allows me to continue on in life, I pray that He continues to speak. But even if I don't hear Him in the years to come, I pray I'm content in knowing He HAS spoken to me and that that alone would be enough for me to worship Him. But oh, how I pray He doesn't stop. Lord, thank you for bringing me into this year. May it be a year marked with adventures with you.

It's hard to believe it's been over two years since I updated this blog. So much has happened since then, it's hard to know where to begin. But He has done great things.

I left Branson, Missouri for starters. I know what you're thinking. She said she was going to work for Klife! As it would turn out God would have much different plans.

In Branson, after the Institute, it was the first time in my life I didn't feel like I had clear direction from the Lord as to where to go next or what to do.  Two of my passions are youth and internationals. I debated and cried. I begged God for direction. I knew I just needed to do something. It came down to two choices after rejecting Klife. Do I go back to the Middle East...or do I go to Texas, to pursue a degree in seminary?

I sought counsel. I was scared. He wasn't answering. I knew there was no "wrong choice". But could there have been? I begrudgingly moved to Texas... listening to godly counsel, and gave in to their wisdom. Me of so little faith. Had I known what I knew now...

I came to Texas and walked into an ESL interview to become a teacher thinking all of my college-aged students would be Hispanic (not that there's anything wrong with that). But God knows my heart. He knows what He's called me and gifted me in better than myself. I walked in and the door opened to a young Arab man saying, "Welcome to ----!" The very country in the Middle East I had just rejected. He took me to a place and gave me authority over Arab men, whom had I been in that country, I would never have had the opportunity to look at or speak too, let alone share my life with. From skydiving to bowling to seeing Arab babies born, I am overwhelmed. He is faithful. He is kind.

This summer I was able to go to Lebanon and serve alongside Syrians. I ran along the border of Syria meeting people who would become my brothers and sisters in Christ. I witnessed miracles. I saw healings. I saw salvation. I saw modern day Bible stories being played out in present day time. I was spared being kidnapped. Bombed. I was protected. One mile from a violent group and not a scratch. I am overwhelmed. He is strong. He is mighty. He is faithful. He is kind.

Now I work a job in Texas and using Arabic every single day. I work with Refugees here and get to be the first one to meet them off the plane. I get to be a first friend. I get to pray over their new homes and new lives. I get to enroll their darling children in school. I get to hear their stories and share in their victories and tragedies. I could not have imagined this. The Lord has a plan. Even when I feel as if I can't hear it, He is still working out things for my good.

This is a blog entry just to say Thank you, Lord. In this season of Advent, I sit here in awe. I recognize I was bought with a price, and redeemed for a purpose. Lord, You are faithful. You are good. May this entry serve as an Ebenezer. A reminder of Your mighty love.

Lamentations 3:21-24

It's amazing how suffering brings out a person's beliefs. It's in those trials that our faith is revealed. We have the option to trust the Lord or turn from Him. No other choice. I'm amazed at my friends' faith. They are giants in the way they trust the Lord. I only hope I can be like them when faced with life's storms. They truly are a testiment to the mighty steadfast love of Christ.

To give you a little background, Walt is one of my brother-in-laws best friends. In his and my sisters wedding, I met him and his wife, Lauren, while attending Ole Miss. They were seniors while I was a lowly freshman. But I looked up to them, but not as much as I do now.

Last week, they had their first child, Mary Elizabeth. They knew she wouldn't live long. God graciously gave them 7 hours with her. But what amazes me is Walt and Lauren's faith. Lauren sent out these prayer requests and verses a week before she gave birth.

The verses are such a testiment to their faith. And encouraged me in mine. I hope they speak to you as much as they did to me. It's kinda long...but so worth it.

Hymn of Trust – Jesus, Lover of my Soul
Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me.
All my trust on thee is stayed, all my help from thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of thy wing.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want, more than all in thee I find;
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is thy name, I am all unrighteousness;
False and full of sin I am; thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with thee is found, grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound, make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art, freely let me take of thee;
Spring thou up within my heart; rise to all eternity.

Hymn of Trust – ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus
'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His word;
Just to rest upon His promise; just to know, Thus saith the Lord.

O how sweet to trust in Jesus, just to trust His cleansing blood;  Just in simple faith to plunge me, 'Neath the healing, cleansing flood.

REFRAIN
    Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him, How I've proved Him o'er and o'er,
    Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus!  O for grace to trust Him more.

Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus, Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking Life, and rest, and joy, and peace.
I'm so glad I learned to trust Thee, Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me, Wilt be with me to the end.

We bring our sufferings, and Christ gives us joy.
We bring our pains, and He gives us comfort.
We bring our deaths, and He gives us life.

There is no pit so deep that the love of God is not deeper still.

heroes

you know it's been a while when you can't even remember your blog password. whoops. how have things have changed since my last blogs... but what hasn't changed is that the Lord is the same. He keeps moving and working in my life, and throughout the world.

I watched a few days ago on September 11th as the news was filled with the stories of Egyptians shouting, "Obama, Obama, there are still a billion Osamas" and Libya killed our ambassor and soem Navy seals. and as Iran gets increasingly more crazy.

How sadly deceived they are. Won't someone go and tell them about JC? my heart is heavy for them. especially my Egyptians. Because i know they are right. there are many osamas. people who will give their lives for a lie. simply because no one is brave enough to tell them the truth.

except for some... and these are my heroes.

C was on my team. there were 12 of us. a week ago she was killed. stabbed to death by a 16 year old boy. she lived over 20 years over there. giving her life to tell them the truth. we will miss her. i remember eating thanksgiving in her house. and sponsoring a football game in her city (yes, i actually had an american football game happen there!). many of her students came to participate. we know where she is. but what about the kid? asking for dreams of J for him. dreams of torment, grace, and forgiveness. weird i know. but those things keep me up at night. forgiveness. forgive him. and hope he believes.

D and B are my heroes. wow. they have played such a huge impact on my life. from the time B was my soccer team's physical trainer in high school! little did i know how much they would mean to me and play in my walk. they are my heroes. they have two darling kids and have lived in a VERY remote place for the past 5 years. they were just recently evacuated do to t3rrorists threats brought on by al qu3da. talking it over with D and crying. i know what it's like not to get the chance to say good bye. but not to the scale she does. can't imagine how hard it was and must still be. but the crazy thing is, they are going back. not to that exact place obviously as they were pulled out in the nick of time. but might as well. i love how they listen and walk JC among such a people in such a place.

and there is J. She discipled me while I lived in Egypt. my role model. she's in a country now, that her heart so desperately loves. i love her for it. i want her passion and her heart. i hope i'm her one day. i love that she never gives up. ever.

miracle in Branson :)

I know I already posted something, but I had to share this!

So a month or so ago I prayed over a woman at church here in Branson. She had found out that day that she had a significantly large tumor. We prayed together, in the name of Jesus, that it would disappear.

Two nights ago I saw her at the Branson IMAX. Not sure why I ever doubt... But she ran up to me and said, "Katie! I had to tell you! I went to the doctor yesterday and he couldn't find the tumor. He said there wasn't one!!!"

She told me she asked the doctor if he was sure because she knew it had been large.

He was sure. :)

Thank you, Lord. That Your Name is Power!

In the words of my dad, "Doctors can only treat, Jesus alone can heal".

And if you want another cool story, talk to my lil sis about the dreams she had a week ago. Jesus showed up. :) Love that He works the same here as I saw Him do so many times in the Middle East!

Heart of the Beast

People keep telling me i'm crazy. I probably am. They say this job will be hard. Yeah, it probably will be. But at least I know two things: God didn't design me for easy. and He never promised I would have to do it on my own. So here goes...

I decided to do KLife. It would seem that He's wired me for ministry. Tried to get out of it. Heck I applied for everything other than ministry. But as doors closed He kept bringing me back in my mind to my call when I was 14. Reminding me, albeit unwillingly to listen, that He has called me to a very specific purpose. That purpose is to make Him known. I was terrified to hear His voice then. Still am. But grateful that He speaks all the same.

That afterall, was the only vision statement I could come up with at Kanakuk. Just repeating Paul in Acts when he basically writes out his vision statement which says, "I count my life NOTHING. No profit to me EXCEPT that I might finish the course of ministry that the Lord has given me, to make known the Gospel of GRACE". so here goes... proclaim til I have no more breath will be the theme of my song.

So in light of KLife. One of my heroes and mentors wrote this. I found this to fit right into my new job description:

“When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple.” (Acts 9:26)

“As soon as Paul yielded to God’s call, things immediately got worse.” A Work of Heart by Reggie McNeal

The doubt and indecision that immediately filled my heart was almost too overwhelming.  My thoughts were filled with distractions that said,” there is an easier way of going about this and you need to consider other avenues that would be less costly to you and those close to you. Then, this morning in my QT, He made me aware of what the cost would be in agreeing with Him about walking into the, “heart of the beast,” and challenging others to do the same. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that the vision He so graciously gave  me years ago would lead to this. So, my dear brother’s and sister’s let us encourage each other in the days ahead to not be deceived by the evil one’s distractions to take the easy road to lostness, but take on the full armor of God and walk Jesus in the assurance of His presence no matter how dark things may become or seem to be.

Let us respond to His call with obedience knowing that we are in this together with Him.

Walk by the Spirit-Galatians 5:16

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on things of the Spirit.”-Romans 8:5

This week at the Kanakuk Institute we had the Pastor of Park City Presbyterian in Highland Park come to the Institute to teach us about the Holy Spirit. He taught us a range of lessons ranging from spiritual gifts to the roles of the Holy Spirit. He taught us the importance of relying on the Holy Spirit in our own lives.

Throughout the Bible we see the Holy Spirit move in the lives of believers. One of my favorite stories is that of Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch. In Acts 8 we see an Angel of the Lord commanding Philip to go down from Jerusalem towards Gaza taking the desert road. Vs. 29 tells us that the Spirit of the Lord led Philip to go up to a chariot he had spotted on the road. As a result of the Spirit’s prompting and Philip’s obedience to follow through an Ethiopian Eunuch is led to Christ. What’s crazy about this story is that in vs. 39, which says, “when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing.” I love this story because it shows us the immeasurable power of the Holy Spirit and how He guides and directs His people for His glory. I love that the Spirit leads Philip to this divine appointment, resulting in a conversation that ultimately leads an Ethiopian to Christ. I have seen in my own life, conversations that I know happened only as a result of the Holy Spirit’s prompting and leading.

Another story in the Bible in which we see the Spirit’s guidance is that of the story of Zerubbabel. In Zechariah 4 we read Zechariah telling us about Zerubbabel. How Zerubbabel was commanded by the Lord to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem. Zechariah 4:6 tells us that “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, say the Lord of hosts.” I love this story because it so clearly shows that the Spirit at work in Zerubbabel’s life. That although Zerubbabel may not have known how he would build the Temple of God, God basically says don’t fear...it’ll happen by my SPIRIT. I love this. The Spirit is so clearly seen enabling Zerubbabel to build the Temple as well as putting a passion within his heart to have it completed.

So we see clearly the Spirit directing, instructing, and living within His followers just as He does today. One thing that I loved learning about this week was the Spirit’s personality and how that personality now lives within us. The Spirit can be grieved, angry, patient, loving, caring, insulted, peaceful, full of truth, etc. There are several more characteristics that the Spirit has and as we walk by the Spirit, we carry out His personality and characteristics all the more and at the appropriate times.

My desire is to be full of the Spirit. To walk with ears open to hear His tones and know precisely where He would have me go, and what He would have me do, just as He so clearly spoke to Philip and Zerubbabel. To live a life radically set apart for the use of the Holy Spirit. To live for the beckoning of the Holy Spirit would be a life not built on might, or by power, but an exciting life built solely around the Glory of God. The Spirit will not always lead you to the safest place, but it will always lead you to the advancement behind enemy lines for the advancement of God’s Kingdom. For His joy and for His glory, I’ll strive to walk in the Spirit.

Reckless

“If I am out of my mind, as some say, it is for You, God. If I am in my right mind, it is for you” -2 Corinthians 5:13

I love this verse. I want to be reckless for Jesus. Even if that means people will say I am out of my mind I’m okay with that. Jesus has transformed my life. Flipped everything that I knew…how I view the world, people, and life differently and most definitely for the better. Everything now streams from the gospel. Now don’t get me wrong, I still mess up and say things and think things everyday that I regret. But there is absolutely nothing that I love to talk about more than Jesus. Probably because I know I never deserved what He did for me. It’s absolutely incredible.

That being said, if you give me an opportunity to talk about Jesus, I won’t want to stop. So tonight I’m just going to share how amazing He is. How He transforms lives for the better.

I was living in a city that I will not verbalize online. But let’s just say I was a bit frustrated at the lack of interest towards Jesus over a series of a few weeks. I had tried to have spiritual conversations. Usually as a result of some taxi driver asking me to marry him for my green card, only to find out why I wouldn’t marry him was because I follow Jesus...which generally led to an explanation of how Allah and my God are different. Pretty exciting stuff, except generally speaking, they just wanted to know why I wouldn’t want to marry them. So after many frustrating conversations that only lead to sticky situations I thought to myself, I’m just not going to talk to this taxi driver tonight. I’m done and tired of trying.

Wouldn’t you know that was the one night God was going to examine my heart. I’m riding in my taxi. My driver is up front, long beard, beady eyes, about the age of a 28 year old or so. He’s looking at me in his rear view mirror as he listens to the Koran being played over his ancient car stereo. “You know Jesus, don’t you?” he asks. Taken by surprise I look into the mirror at his eyes. “How do you know?” I asked. He responds with, “I am not sure, but the Koran says I should read the Bible. Do you have one?” In my mind I think to myself, “SERIOUSLY, LORD?!” So as if a divine appointment couldn’t have been more obvious, I find a Bible in my bag and immediately give it to him. He looks at it, “Please don’t give me this new Bible, please find me one that is old so I won’t be taking from you”. I can see him shaking in excitement. “No please,” I say, “I believe Jesus wants me to give this to you”. He smiles back at me through his beard. “I promise to read this,” He says with an eager grin. Then he drops me off as he drives away reading the bible over his car steering wheel….

It’s amazing what I learned from this experience. The moment I don’t depend on MYSELF to share, God always blows my mind. He brings in people who are ready to hear. Who are excited and hungry so that I don’t even have to go look for them. How sweet it is that the Lord, if we depend on His Spirit, He brings conversations to us. If only I could live by the Spirit everyday. Father, please help me to hear the tones of your voices. Make me ready to move, to speak, to turn and to discern your voice when You command me to go. May I be absolutely out of my mind for You.

To live is CHRIST, to die is GAIN

“They triumphed over him [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” –Rev: 12:11

This past week at the Kanakuk Institute we studied Church History. Over three days we started with the Great Commission and ended in present times. It was so interesting to learn how the different denominations began and how different theologians have inspired us and have led us to a deeper understanding of the Lord.

One of my favorite parts of the week though, would have to be the stories of all the people who had given their lives for what they believe in. There are so many incredible stories of how time and time again, followers of Christ were asked to recant from their faith in Jesus Christ in order that they might live, but they never did. These are my heroes. I pray, that if faced with the same decision, I too, would have the faith and strength to stand up for Jesus.

One of the men that was mentioned this week in class was a man by the name of Adoniram Judson. Andoniram Judson became one of the first missionaries to the country of Burma, where he and his wife would continuously suffer trials for the sake of bringing the gospel to the Burmese people. Immediately upon entering Burma, Judson and his wife, Ann, began language studies. But it wouldn’t be until 5 years later that Judson would have a first convert into Christianity.

As the gospel spread throughout Burma and Judson’s completion of translating the Gospel into Burmese was complete, opposition began to rise. Most of the opposition came from the war between Burma and the British East Indian government. The Burmese skepticism of Judson and his western heritage, led them to arrest him and his colleague in 1824. They were then taken to a death prison where they were repeatedly tortured. For eleven months they were kept here, only surviving starvation through the daily visits form Judson’s wife who would bring them as much food as was allowed.

After eleven months in this prison, Judson was moved to an even worse prison. He would be in this prison for six months, again only surviving by his wife’s visits. Judson prison guards were forbidden to execute him due to his phenomenal language skills that the Burmese desired to use for negotiations in the war. Eventually, they would release Judson as a result of British involvement.

Immediately following his release, Judson continued tirelessly in missionary work. However, this wasn’t the end to his trials. His wife would die a few months following his release from prison. He would eventually remarry, many years later to a woman named Sarah Boardman. But after having children together, she too would die leaving him with children to raise on his own.

It would be years later, before Judson would again remarry. He and his third wife served tirelessly in Burma for years sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ boldly. Incredibly enough, Judson’s goal was to share with 100 people and that 100 Burmese would come to know Christ. But as a result of his faithful obedience to the Lord’s calling on his life to live in Burma, over 3,000 Burmese would come to have personal relationships with the Lord Jesus.

Judson would eventually die of a disease. But his faithful obedience to follow the Lord has led Burma to have thousands of Baptist Churches there today. Judson’s story is one of remarkable suffering, but in the midst of it all, his legacy will be remembered forever as one who daily died to self, and gave up his life for the cause of Christ. Adoniram Judson is just one of many heroes of the faith who believed that Jesus Christ and what he did on the cross for us was worth laying down their own lives for the sake of others.

Ya Masra

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/11/world/middleeast/coptics-criticize-egypt-government-over-killings.html?_r=1&ref=global-home

talked to maggie for a short time today. the thing she kept saying over and over again on skype was "pray for egypt. pray for egypt".

Maggie is a Coptic Christian, and in light of the recent Egyptian Revolution, Coptics especially face a hard road ahead. In any event, I agree with Mags, we gotta pray more for Egypt. Waiting for Isaiah 19 to be fulfilled!

Vision

So first week of Kanakuk Institute and we're already told to make our vision statement for our LIVES. yeah HARD. Except that there were some obvious givens. These verses came to mind while pondering over the significance of at least having SOME vision. encourage you to think of one too. It was pretty awesome.

“I do not count my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus Christ, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” –Acts 20:24

“…They glorified God because of me.” –Galatians 1:24

“Seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on the Earth” Col. 3:12

“Know the God of Your father and serve Him with a whole heart and with a willing mind” -1 Ch. 28:9

“For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God, if we are in our right mind, it is for God” -2 Cor 5:13

So, although subject to some change, without further ado, my vision thus far in the school year:

To seek and know God so that I might not count anything more significant than to finish my course in testifying to the gospel of the grace of God so that men might glorify Him because of me.”

"Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,
naught be all else to me, save that thou art;
Thou my best thought by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light."

Waiting

So today I prayed a selfish prayer. My iPod had crashed and I ordered a new one online that said it would be shipped out and arrive by the end of the day monday to my hands! Gosh...life without music...hard. Anyways, it was monday, around noon and we had exactly 5 minutes left before my mom and i would drive to the beach to meet up with the rest of the fam. So, I went outside to load my clothes in the back of the SUV and prayed, "Lord, i know this is slightly ridiculous but it would be so nice of you if my iPod would arrive within the next 5 minutes". And wouldn't you know I said "Amen" just in time to hear a huge UPS truck pull up to my drive and hand me my iPod. He has a great sense of humor and a reminder that His timing is always perfect!

But even now, as I pray for certain requests, remembering how quickly He answered that one, it is still difficult to trust Him with the things I'm "waiting for". I guess it's frustrating in a sense that I know He could tell me the wheres, whens, and hows of what I'm suppose to do/apply for in a split second. But then, I wouldn't be learning the art of waiting upon Him. Matter of fact, I'd probably take the fact that He has a plan for my life for granted. And now I'm clinging to that promise like it's the field with the hidden treasure.

so until i get those answers that He's waiting to reveal to me (and to us), I'll just keep praying, Lord, let Your Kingdom come in my life and in this world. And keep pressing on towards the prize. And prayerfully, will keep my eyes on the cross and what was paid there that ended up flipping my world upside down for the better.

Praying for you all too, as we all seem to be waiting on something.

summer!

despite the fact i have pneumonia (who gets pneumonia in may, right?), i've been so grateful for this week of rest. I thought i'd be at kamp after a whirlwind of fishing, kid watching, and packing, but my lungs apparentely had other ideas. so here i am, after a week of good solid rest, so ready to be at kamp!! i leave tomorrow. I'm still not over everything, but I feel so so so much better and excited at what the future holds! it should be a hilarious summer.

did i mention i'm going to be an aunt to another any day now? seriously, kimbo could call me now and tell me it's time! ah! i can't wait to find out what she's having!

And as much as I'm excited to meet lil' one (be it a boy or girl) in June, and lil' boy in July, I really just can't wait to spend some time with my #1. Sure do love my first nephew! Granted, I know as soon as these little blessings arrive, my heart will get a little bit wider. And yes, I do realize how cheesy I sound!

Let the Legacy Live On

6 years ago today, my kanakuk kamp crush (and ole miss crush!) died. clay waycaster...let me just tell you. He was a good looking guy! and not just that, but he loved Jesus with his whole heart. I had finally gotten up the courage to ask Clay to go with me to my Spring formal. It would be a lie to say I wasn't sooo nervous and soooo excited. But as the Lord would have it, just a few days after we made the plans, Clay would go see Jesus. Still jealous you beat me to the throne, brother. But I know you're up there hanging out with my granddad, all of those crazy Bible prophets that I'd love to drill with questions, and Jesus Himself.

There are many things that the Lord taught me during Clay's death. But I'll spare you this time around.

But how sweet of the Lord to allow his older sister, an amazing godly woman and president of our sorority at the time of Clay's death to have her first born son today. They named him Clay. How sweet of the Lord to bring that sweet life into the world the same day, 6 years before, he took Clay home.

What a reminder. The Lord gives and takes away; Blessed be the Name of the Lord. and that the Lord does no wrong. -job

The Lord your God is with you. He is MIGHTY TO SAVE zep 3

What an incredible day.

This weekend my mom, Kimmie, and my nephew Isaac went over to Clinton, MS where my grandmother lives. They were there to attend my sister Carla's first baby shower. Another lil boy on the way in July. Not to mention Kimmie's surprise due in June. Wow I love being an aunt and I love spoiling Isaac and that he calls me "DD" when he tries for Katie. But that's not the story...back to the point.

So while in Clinton at my grandmother's a huge storm blows in bringing with it a pretty stinkin' intense tornado. So together, my family huddles in the storm shelter with Isaac screaming, noise deafening, house shaking, and lots of fear. Kimmie, my sister said she got in and really thought, "this is it. this is the last day I live". So with pressure feeling like their ears would burst, Kimmie, mom, and Meme began praying. And the Spirit of the Lord was so clearly there.

After 20-30 seconds of terror, the tornado passed over. Trees everywhere but on the house. Only one totaled my mom's car. His protection and power and love and mercy were clearly seen today!

And if that wasn't enough. I've been babysitting 2 boys and let me just say it's been less than paradise. But today made every bit of struggle worth it as the oldest, Jack, at 11 spent a good 45 minutes drilling me with questions about Jesus. Absolutely incredible. I still am in awe. At the end of the conversation he told me, "Katie. I think I hear a voice. I think it's God. It's telling me to believe". How cool is that? And how sweet it was to see little Will, only 6, get on his knees and ask the Lord for protection from the storm.

My heart is full tonight.

Acts 17:26-28

"I am no longer anxious about anything, as I realize the Lord is able to carry out His will, and His will is mine. It makes no matter where He places me, or how. That is rather for Him to consider than for me; for in the easiest positions He must give me His grace, and in the most difficult, His grace is sufficient"-Hudson Taylor,

So in this season of life, here in little ole Auburn, Alabama, I have no idea what's next. But i take great encouragement from Hudson Taylor, one of China's very first missionary. And believe, that it doesn't matter where God places me or how, for His grace is sufficient in it all. Althought it was unclear before, I now see, as my sweet daddy always reminds me, "katie, the goal in your life is to work yourself out of a job. you share until everyone's heard. and then you move on. you don't have to be called to one particular place, cause like Paul, your line of work requires to go where the lost is". So here I'm in Auburn. And wouldn't you know it, He has provided me friends from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Korea, and sweet Mexico. Not to mention my dear new American friends and family. I love love love that He's brought the nations to us.

In short. Although I don't know particulars, it's so good to cling to what is truth and what I do know. Banking on the promises of God. I know I'm called to go. I know He'll go with me and before me. And I know that because He's obviously not finished with me (or i'd be dead), that He does have plans. So I guess, for now, I'll just plan on striving to be obedient and to fix my eyes on the One on the Throne-the prize.

He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, 'For we also are His children.' -Acts 17

Peru part 2

So yeah, i should of written the second half like ages ago. but life gets crazy. so here is a quick quick praise to what the Lord did that week of Spring!

We made it safely, crossing a zipline over a pretty intense river into the Peruvian jungle. Upon arriving we knew of 2 believers. After leaving, it appeared we had atleast 5 more. Praise the Lord! The boys on the trip even lead one little Louigi to Jesus and were able to baptize him the next day on the banks of the river. Please pray that this little lad grows up loving Jesus with his whole heart, mind, and soul and become a spiritual leader and light to his village. So sweet for the Spirit to move in his little heart!

The village also voted on building a church and the next day began cutting down jungle timber to be used. It was such an encouragement to us as many had said that their reasonings for not building one was that it always resulted in burning down. Please pray against spiritual warfare and the for the well-being of the church, and most importantly, for it's members. That they would grow into a strong, beautiful, bride of Christ.

And last, but certainly not least. Please pray for these sweet ninos of the village of Chirani. That they'd grow up putting their hope in the Way, which is Jesus Christ. How can you not want to see these little faces in heaven??
